Nantes - Lorient

PICK: over 2,5 @1,84 PINNACLE 3/10

Tonight at 20:00, La Beujoire will host match between 8th placed Nantes and 16th placed Lorient. Unfortunately for Canaries, tribune Loire will be closed, while there is approx. 800 fans expected from the Lorient.

With great results after the Conceiçao became a coach of Nantes (9 wins, 5 draws, 4 defeats), Nantes jumped from relegation places into top10, being only 1 point behind 7th St. Etienne and in my opinion, they have good chances to finish in front of them. Conceiçao is without problems with squad. I have spoken about the situation in club right now. There is good atmosphere, with Rongier and Gillet, they are among top3 teams when it comes the stealing the ball from opposition, with Nakoulma in attack they finally have a goal scoring striker. First goalscorer of the team is Sala, who scored 9 goals in 30 matches, but Nakoulma is almost "there", with 5 goals in 7 matches. Even if I said many times, that Sala isn't the right kind of player for Nantes, it looks that his aggressive, hard working way of playing works fine with Nakoulma. He was suspended against Caen, where they won 0-2, and shown that they don't care about the teams in need of points. With win against them, they actually made a good thing for Lorient.

Watching the press conference of Casoni, you can feel how much of pressure is right now on the team. They were written off after being 2-0 down against Nancy, but after that.. they won 4 of last 5 matches, and right now they are 2 points above 18th placed Dijon. They will play against Angers and Bordeaux at home, while their second away match besides in Nantes, will be in Furiani, against Bastia. I have written a lot about Lorient in this season, as I really appreciate their offensive approach with amazing players such as Moukandjo, Waris, Marveaux,.. but today, they won't be able to count on Marveaux, who is injured. In last match they scored 5 goals against Metz, and I believe that their confidence has raised after that match. As I have said many times: even if their defence is disaster (conceded 65 goals on 34 matches), their attack is in top10 of the league and I believe that they will save the season.

Nantes used to play very well organised, but as Gillet said. They failed to make fans happy in first part of the season under Girard, and they will try their best to keep them in positive mood till the end of the season. They are playing well, they can be relaxed, and with good atmosphere as it is in the club, I am pretty sure that we'll see open match from both sides. It's obvious that Lorient need to go "all out to attack" and score one more than concede, otherwise they have no chance here. With Dubois and Lima, we can expect that Nantes will try to exploit flanks. Conceiçao can choose different options. He has possibility to play with "true wingers" on flank in 4-4-2, or with inside wide midfielders, or as he did for example against Angers, with one inside midfielder (Thomasson) and winger Kacaniklic on the other side. With those type of players, they are actually capable to transform their system from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3. Even if defence is pretty solid with Djidji and Diego Carlos, they are used to make minor mistakes, which I am pretty sure will cost against strikers as Lorient have. As I mentioned above, Dubois and Lima are used to go very high on the pitch and left a lot of empty space behind. On the other hand, Nantes is stealing ball really often, Rongier and Gillet are great duo in central midfield and Lorient is making dozens of mistakes in midfield. With quick transitions of Nantes, and with being poor at defending set pieces, I can see lots of problems for Lorient here and that's why I am pretty sure that we'll see some goals here.

FT: 1-0
